The old path is walkable again for the first time in years.
Walked the east shore before the heat came up. The waterline has dropped far
enough that the gravel bar is dry all the way across, and you can follow it out
to the stone marker without getting your boots wet.
Counted eleven herons. Last summer I counted three.
A note on winter light
Flat light, which is unhelpful for photographs and lovely for walking.
Everything I like about this season is difficult to photograph. The light is
even and shadowless and the camera turns it into grey soup, so I have mostly
stopped trying and started writing things down instead.
Repairing the garden gate
Two hinges, one bad decision made in 2019, and an afternoon. It closes now,
which I am choosing to count as a success.
